Koofr is a European cloud storage service that offers a secure, end-to-end encrypted “Vault” feature (zero-knowledge encryption). It also provides a desktop sync client, but Vault itself is primarily browser-based. After testing it with large-scale data transfers, here is my real-world experience. ⸻ Pros • Strong privacy and encryption Vault uses AES-256 encryption with a zero-knowledge model, meaning even Koofr cannot access your files. • Good usability for everyday files Small and medium-sized uploads work smoothly. • EU-based service Strong data protection standards under EU regulations. • Desktop app available (Koofr Drive) There is a Windows desktop application for file syncing, which works well for general storage use. ⸻ Cons (Large Uploads / Vault Limitations) 1. Browser instability with large uploads I attempted to upload a 600+ GB folder into Vault using Windows and Chrome on a 1 Gbit fiber connection. → The browser froze twice and Vault had to be restarted. 2. Large encrypted file upload failed I tested uploading a single AES-256 encrypted DMG file. → The upload crashed after a few minutes. 3. Splitting files works, but is extremely slow When splitting the data into ~35 GB parts: → Uploads succeeded in Chrome → However, the estimated total upload time is 3–4 days ⸻ Summary Koofr Vault is: • Reliable for small and medium-sized files • Strong in privacy and encryption • Not reliable for very large datasets (hundreds of GBs or more) The main limitation is that Vault uploads are browser-based, and the system does not handle very large transfers smoothly or consistently. ⸻ Best suited for • Documents, photos, and normal backups • Privacy-focused users who prioritize encryption • Moderate-sized cloud storage needs Not ideal for • Large-scale uploads (hundreds of GB or TB-level data) • Very large single files (tens of GB+) ⸻ Final Verdict Koofr is a solid and privacy-focused cloud storage service, but its Vault feature is not yet suitable for heavy-duty large file transfers. With improvements like: • A dedicated desktop uploader for Vault • More robust resumable upload handling it could become significantly more competitive for large-scale backup use.

Absolutely satisfied with this purchase. Great storage provider, been around for years, I'm confident they'll stay in business. Storage is upgradeable again through their website up to 2.5tb, although the most value is from this deal. Desktop app and mobile apps lack polish but the expected functionality works. Also has support for rclone which is a big plus. Highly recommend this deal over internxt or the others. It's mountable through WebDAV as well. Upload speeds are not the best but that may be because of my location. It works for me, highly recommend this deal.
